Today’s post marks the final day of spring/summer capsule foundation pieces in our Building a Capsule Wardrobe series with a focus on shoes. Next up will be the fun stuff – adding color, pattern and accessories!
Spring/Summer Casual Capsule Foundation Shoes
The two shoes that I think will get you through 80% plus of your spring casual wear needs are pictured below: a simple white sneaker and a neutral slide sandal. Don’t panic yet at the thought of just two shoes – we can add something else in an accent color when we get to the next step!
- Neutral Slide Sandal in a low to moderate heel, as close to your skin tone as you can get.
For the Office
For office wear, pumps are the foundation workhorse. While some work environments allow for open toed shoes and while some women prefer a loafer to a pump when wearing a trouser; a classic, pointed toe, mid-heel will get you through nearly all work situations.
- Neutral Pump either close to your own skin color or in a dark neutral (black/navy). I love the neutral shoe because it goes with everything and makes your legs look longer when in a dress or skirt.
Swimwear is the focus of Part 2 of 3 in the Resort Wear 2017 series. We’ve got four looks for you today that cover a range of personal style types.
Swimwear Look 1: Romantic/Feminine
First up is a romantic/feminine look. This suit has been a favorite of mine on Pinterest. It’s a simple, classic style made romantic by the addition of crochet trim. A ruffled white tunic cover-up, embroidered straw bag and tasseled flip-flops complete this feminine girl’s look.

Velvet was a major trend on the Fall, 2016 catwalks and this lush fabric lends itself well to holiday dressing. Following on last week’s theme, below are three distinct ways to wear velvet this next month or so…bohemian, romantic and edgy.
Look 1 – Bohemian: This look is centered around a black velvet babydoll dress with bell sleeves. The embroidered bootie, suede clutch, skinny scarf and mixed media earrings all enhance the boho feel.
Look 2 – Romantic: The soft color of the cami as well as those in the shoes and jewelry all help give this look a romantic feel. Pairing those pieces with a lighter trouser and blue velvet blazer keep the look classic.
Look 3 – Edgy: Velvet can be edgy if it’s cut as a fitted crop top. To keep the look on point, I’ve paired the top with jet black skinnies and sexy, strappy stilettos. A ruffled leather bottle green crossbody with metal accents and a dramatic cuff/earring set complete this final outfit.
