Recently the topic of spring trends arose and I remained a bit mum on the subject as I largely felt Spring 2017 offered a lot of “been there, done that” styles. Furthermore, some of the top runways looks – neon, bra tops, etc. just aren’t wearable for most us on a day-to-day basis. But today I decided to sit down and cherry pick a few top trends and identify ways to give a fresh spin to the styles that have been around a couple seasons.
This weekend casual look came about when I purchased this Fair Isle sweater from J. Crew. The company has been having a bit of trouble recently, demonstrated by the fact that they’re running items at a near constant 40-50% off. Prints and patterns are atypical for me but I was looking for a piece to liven up my basics. The bright blue colors and combo stripes and pattern in this piece called out and I wasn’t disappointed when the sweater arrived. The wool quality (which has gotten to be suspect on some recent J. Crew pieces) is good and while the arms are bit snug with a shirt layered underneath, I’m afraid going up a size would make things too boxy through the middle.
Perhaps surprisingly, I’ve come to rely on Target’s C9 line as my workout wear of choice. It’s super-reasonably priced, offers a great weight and coverage (unlike those transparent numbers of the 2013 Lululemon debacle) and hold up well to countless washing. Target refreshes the line multiple times throughout the year providing a steady supply of new prints and colors. Old Navy also makes cute, inexpensive active wear pieces.
Currently the C9 line is running at 25% off prices below with code SAVE25.
