Before you can begin building a capsule wardrobe, you need to have a strong foundation. This week I’d like to talk about some workhorse basic bottoms – the pants and skirts that can be worn again and again and will act as the basis of your capsule. While you don’t need ALL of these pieces to start a capsule, you will find it easier if you have at least three or four of them. As basics that will get a lot of repeat wear, I’d keep details clean and minimal. We’ll get to some fun stuff a bit later!
Now that summer is underway it’s time to think about cute swimwear for trips to the pool and beach…
I love all the newer high neck, halter top bikinis that are out right now! This white one from Ralph Lauren is especially sweet for it’s scallop and eyelet detail. The high neckline of the cover-up works with this suit and mirrors the sweet, girlie feel of the two-piece. (St. Tropez Eyelet Bikini & Hipster $73 each piece and Kate Spade Dress Swim Cover-up $120)
If you are sporty like me and enjoy being in the water (snorkeling, paddle-boarding, kayaking, etc.) you’ll likely want a bit more coverage. Just love this sporty yet feminine rash guard from Tommy Bahama in a fresh gingham print paired with solid ruched boy shorts from Athleta! (Gingham Rash Guard $94 and Scrunch Short $49)
For modest girls, this simple suit from Tory Burch is elegant and classic yet offers a peek of skin via the low-cut, strappy back. Finished off with a print pareo, the look is resort-ready – all you need to do is order that Mai Tai. (Logo Shoulder One Piece $225 and Echo Bloomies Digital Pix Skirt Cover-up $58)
