Great Vacation Getaways Near Cleveland, Ohio

Last Updated on September 16, 2026 by Betsy Ramsey

With flight capacities diminishing and airfares surging, many people are considering trips closer to home for the summer of 2026. Today, I’m sharing several exciting vacation destinations that are a one-tank-trip away from Cleveland, Ohio.

You don’t need to fly or even take a long drive to experience a fun or restorative getaway near Cleveland, Ohio! Below are just a few of the properties that I keep on our ever-expanding “to visit” list for when we need to take a break but want to stay local.

Vincent William Inn & Winery

Nestled on a stunning plot of lakefront land in Madison, Ohio, Vincent William Inn & Winery is a lovely and nearby destination. The inn has seven calming and beautifully decorated guest rooms of varying size, several with lake views.

Guests can enjoy a wine in the cozy wine bar or savor a meal on the lakefront patio. Those looking to relax can while away the day reading on the private beach or at the pool.

For more entertainment, there are multiple golf courses nearby as well as the Grand River wine region, with over 30 other wineries and a smattering of covered bridges to explore.

BEST FOR: Adult couples who are food/wine aficionados.

Omni Bedford Springs

Are you looking for a true resort experience with activities for the whole family? Then the Omni Bedford Springs in Bedford, Pennsylvania, is for you! Just under four hours away from Cleveland, the Omni won a Travel & Leisure World’s Best award in 2024.

An historic property, the Omni Bedford Springs is similar in design to several other famous Omni properties, including the Omni Mount Washington and the Omni Homestead resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.

Multi-generational families will find amenities for everyone. With two large pools, a spa, tennis courts, a golf course, and a fitness center, you’ll be hard-pressed to experience everything that the resort has to offer. You can even participate in archery classes and ATV adventures or, for the less adventurous, special culinary events and historic property tours.

In the evening, you’ll want to check out the various dining options. Did you know they even have a special pet menu for four-footed guests? After dinner, relax by a fire pit with a cocktail or make some s’mores for dessert.

BEST FOR: Couples and families seeking luxurious, full-service resort amenities and wholesome fun!

The Nemacolin resort is another popular full-service, luxury resort option in this area. The Grand Resort in Warren, Ohio, offers similar amenities at a significantly lower cost than either the Omni or Nemacolin, as does Seven Springs.

Boardwalk Village

Slightly over three hours west of Cleveland, you’ll find Boardwalk Village in Celina, Ohio. It’s a little taste of Key West right in Northeast Ohio!

Accommodations include townhomes and free-standing vacation rentals, all painted in colorful tones that enhance the island getaway vibe! Properties can house anywhere from 4 to 12 guests.

Guests will enjoy access to a centrally located swimming pool, as well as the many activities available on Grand Lake. Boardwalk Village is where you’ll find rentals (boats, bikes, kayaks & golf carts) along with a game arcade, sub shop, ice cream shop, the Boardwalk Grill, and Coconut Hut tiki bar.

Live musical acts and a steady stream of special events fill the summer calendar. The Blue Goose Shuttle provides transportation to the towns of Coldwater and Montezuma, on the other side of Grand Lake. A great option for a night of bar-hopping!

BEST FOR: Trips with friends or families wanting a casual, party-like atmosphere!

Hideaway Bay

Just west of Buffalo, NY, you’ll find Hideaway Bay Resort. With ten two-bedroom cottages just yards from Lake Erie, you can’t help but relax and commune with nature while you’re here!

You can spend your day sunning and searching for beach glass, or you can try your hand at sailing, kitesurfing, or fly fishing. To further aid in relaxation, the resort offers its guests a hot tub, sauna, and even in-room massages.

A continental breakfast is provided, and while there is a restaurant on site, I’d be tempted to use the communal outdoor grill and enjoy dinner waterside! Alternatively, drive into the small town of Silver Creek or even into Buffalo, just 30 minutes away. The Anchor Bar is home to the original Buffalo wing recipe, created in 1964.

BEST FOR: A chill couples weekend or nature-based family getaway!
