Stylish Walking Shoes for Travel – 7 Brands You’ll Love

1. Allbirds

The Allbird Tree Runners have become my travel sneaker of choice. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and washable. Previously I wore their classic wool runners but have found the tree runners to be more durable and less prone to stretching out.

I also have a pair of the Tree Breezers, a ballet-flat style which I wear when I need a slightly dressier look. Neither of these shoes is part of their water-resistant collection but will hold up just fine under mildly wet conditions.

2. Birkenstocks

Whoever would have thought that I’d become a Birk girl? I got my first pair of Gizeh’s last spring and, after a very minor break-in period, they are now among the most comfortable shoes I own. Great for the summer months, I love that they can be worn with shorts, jeans and even sundresses. The new laser-cut floral style is adorable.

3. Olukai

Olukais come on me every beach vacation. The molded footbed makes it flip-flop that nearly everyone can walk in and I love that they can get wet. I’ve always worn a version of the Ohana flip-flop but recently they’ve started releasing some cute new “fashion” sandals that would be great for pairing with shorts or sundresses.

4. Vivaia

I purchased a pair of Vivaia boots for our Japan trip because the soft fabric upper allows them to fold up into nothing and I was utterly hooked on their comfort as well as the styling. When it comes time to replace my Allbirds ballet flats, I’d like to try this version. The pointed-toe and Mary Jane strap have a contemporary and on-trend look!

5. Kara Mac

My Boho boots that you may remember from this post are still going strong and remain one of the most comfortable pairs in my closet! While the leather takes up a bit more luggage space than my Vivaia boots do, they’re the perfect option for business/business casual wear.

Kara Mac recently released the Gigi sandal, which uses the interchangeable Boho heel and can accept additional “candy” on the toe strap. Kara Mac is 100% my go-to for dressier travel occasions!

6. Merrell

For our most adventurous travels, I take along my Merrell All Out Blaze Sieve (similar) water sneakers. They’re comfy, lightweight, have a covered toe, incredible grip, and cut openings that allow water or sand to easily drain out. These are what I use for hiking and very rocky terrain.

7. Kizik

Kizik tennis shoes get an honorable mention in today’s post. While I don’t wear them myself, my husband is a huge advocate. Kiziks have a proprietary “step-in” feature that allows you to easily slip them on, hands-free. Oh, and they’re super comfortable to boot!

  1. Hi Betsy, Reading your weekly blog and BAM! Kara Mac Shoes is part of it. Thanks So Much!!! It makes me so happy knowing how comfortable you think the Boho Boots are. It is the reason we exist. Comfort, Convenience and Travel. Loving the GiGi Sandal too:-) Thanks a Bunch! Kara Mac

  2. Hi Betsy. The ballet flats and the Mary Jane’s have become very popular in Europe this year. Today, I even noticed that Mango has some new ballet flats out, that look very similar to the toe shoes that l used to dance in, when I was young. I have a pair of black patent ballet flats that I wore almost every day in Estonia. They were perfect to wear with Jean’s, or a skirt. I don’t wear sneakers unless I’m running, or walking in the woods, or on the beach. Those Allbird Trree runners that you shared, look really comfortable. Thank you for sharing. xx

    1. That is so cool to hear what is hot right now in Europe! I love the ballet flats because they look great with sundresses, jeans and pretty much everything! Enjoy your summer and thanks for commenting.
