Crazy Versatile City-Chic Summer Capsule

The summer travel season is in full swing! People often ask me, how do you manage to travel with just a carry-on size bag and a personal item? Well, today I’m sharing a city-chic summer capsule that represents how I pack. Can you believe that with just 16 pieces, you can create more than 27 outfits? I’m sharing those too!

16-Piece City-Chic Summer Capsule

Let’s dive right in! This capsule contains 16 pieces and is all-inclusive aside from jewelry. I’ve used black and white as base colors but you could easily work this capsule with navy and tan, olive and tan, or olive and black. You can see all color variations when you click each item in Shop the Post below.

All pieces shown in the graphic are listed below except for the black Pull & Bear sandals, which can be found here. Most of the linen pieces shown are from J. Crew. Quince, Old Navy, and Target are all wonderful resources for look-for-less linen options.

City-Chic Summer Outfits

Now for the fun part. Creating outfits! Using just the 16 pieces in the capsule, I was able to create 27 different outfits and could continue with even more. The key to doing this is making sure that your items coordinate with each other. Even the Joshua Tree tee, which shows a burst of color, still fits in with the overall color palette.

Denim Shorts Looks

The denim shorts pair with every one of the five tops shown in the capsule. When you tire of wearing them individually, you can layer. Both the sneakers and sandals look great with the medium-wash, fray hem shorts.

Linen Shorts Looks

Much like the denim short above, I love the slightly longer inseam of these shorts. However, if a short-short is more your thing, they have a 3″ inseam version available.

Jumpsuit Looks

This jumpsuit comes in a slew of solids and a blue pinstripe option if you prefer a navy base. It’s another easy-peasy, one-and-done choice that can take you from day to night in cool comfort.

Denim Skirt Looks

Did you catch this post on how to style a denim maxi skirt? It was written this winter and now I’m showing how that same piece can be just as versatile in the summer months.

Linen Trouser Looks

This black linen trouser is one of my favorite pieces as it can so easily be dressed up or down, depending on the styling!

Dress Looks

On its own, this dress is chic and comfortable and can be paired with both sneakers and sandals. For additional styling options, try layering the tee beneath the dress or wearing the linen camp shirt over it. You can leave it unbuttoned, jacket-style or tie it at the waist for a different look.

For those who prefer navy as a base color, this Banana Republic knit dress is a good option, as is this striped option from Loft.

I hope this city-chic summer capsule has inspired you! Feel free to swap out the pieces for different colors and customize them to your own taste. Know a friend who would love this capsule! Please forward them this post and encourage them to subscribe to Natty Gal.
