5 Looks: How to Style Knit Sets

In my opinion, knit sets have a fairly classic look, despite also being a huge trend this fall. Be it skirt sets or trouser sets, knit combinations are everywhere! The easiest way to wear them is as purchased – paired.

I love the subtle, marled texture in this skirt set from COS! For a cute, city-chic look, I’ve paired the set with black boots, a black clutch, and silver earrings. A tan boot/bag would work just as well, as would a saturated tone like a deep berry. This is effortless dressing at it’s finest!

Variation #1: Go Casual!

For a comfy, everyday look, pair the sweater with your favorite jeans and sneakers. If it’s cool outside, consider layering a button-down underneath or wearing a vest or utility jacket on top. The cute puffer bag is perfect for completing this sporty look!

Variation #2: Preppy Vibes

You’ll be giving off some solid preppy vibes if you pair the skirt with a button-down and vest. Finish the look off with a pair of Mary Jane-style ballet flats and a big tote. Perfect for the office or business casual events.

Variation #3: Quiet Luxury

This look features one of my favorite new handbag brands, Polène. Their sumptuous leather bags come in a variety of unique styles and are at a price point similar to Tory Burch. They scream “Quiet Luxury”!

To keep focus on the handbag, the rest of the outfit is super simple. Partially tuck the sweater into a pair of wool, wide-leg trousers and add a chic belt. Pair with a sling-back or chunky heeled loafers and rest easy, knowing you like like money.

Variation #4: Dinner Date

Bodysuits work really well under knit skirts as they eliminate any bulk! Slide into a sexy sandal and layer a leather jacket over the bodysuit. Finish with a scarf or layered necklaces and a pair of simple hoops.

  1. Hi Betsy. Thank you for these great ideas for fall. I really needed some inspiration. I don’t know where or when our upcoming trip will be, but I need a little wardrobe overhaul. I have some sweaters, that I got last year in Strasbourg, but I would like to get some wool trousers, instead of limiting my pants outfits to jeans. I also got some high-heeled Mary janes, last year, but they aren’t practical for all the walking I do when traveling. Take care, Betsy. xx

    1. I love the idea of wool trousers for fall and have personally been on a hunt for a tweed/herringbone pair. Mary Janes are all the rage right now but I can see how a heeled pair would be difficult when traveling. Can’t wait to see where your next adventures take you! XO, Betsy
