I’m so very excited to have a friend of mine guest posting today! Laura and I go back to our elementary school days and in recent years she has become my go-to authority for skincare tips, beauty advice, and more. Today she is sharing some of what she’s learned about how to maintain gorgeous skin and how to create a natural, but polished, daily makeup look.

Essential Skincare Tips for the 50+ Woman
Always curious about the latest and greatest in skincare, haircare, and beauty products, Laura is on a first-name basis with the staff at her local Ulta and Sephora stores and picks up a lot of tips and tricks from TikTok. In this video, Laura shares some of the most important skincare and beauty tips she’s picked up along the way.
Key Takeaways for Naturally Beautiful Skin
- Double-cleanse your face at night using a makeup remover first and follow with a cleanser.
- Use only a pea-sized amount of retinol to diminish fine lines and plump skin. Dot lightly on your skin then blend. Another recommended brand.
- If you have over-used retinol and need to repair your skin barrier, use a gentle moisturizer nightly for up to 30 days. Recommended products include Inkey Urea Moisture, CeraVe, and Vaseline.
- Wear your sunscreen. It is so important! SuperGoop Matte 40 has a light tint that will cover any minor imperfections and has a matte finish.
- Apply a primer like Milk or OneSize to help control oily areas.
- Apply concealer very sparingly by picking up a bit of concealer on a foundation brush and then gently tapping into oily and/or dark areas. Recommended bargain brand.
- Finish with a finely-milled powder. Maybelline FitMe is a great bargain brand, the Givenchy is a decadent splurge!
Stop Sagging Skin
NOTE FROM NATTY GAL: This Peter Thomas Roth Firmx Eye Temporary Eye Tightener is the most recent purchase I’ve made on Laura’s recommendation and it is terrific. Tightens up my sagging undereye skin!
The viral videos are all over Tik Tok and Instagram! My contact at Sephora told me to mix it with eye cream and play with it until I got the right results. I used the product sparingly and applied it with a concealer brush. After that, I applied concealer and loose powder. I think I must have applied it better or accidentally used a bit more on the left eye. Check out the difference!
Blushes for a Rosy Glow & 2 That are Just a “No”
For liquid or cream blushes, I can’t say enough about Glossier and Rare Beauty blushes! I actually purchased these before they became a viral hit. The colors are beautiful, they go on smoothly, and they LAST! So natural looking. NOTE: A little goes a long way, do use sparingly.
My newest favorites are Benefit blushes. I’m telling you, these blow all other blushes out of the water! Seriously!!! (I still like the Nars and L’Oréal powder blushes, but these are seriously amazing) The colors are gorgeous, they apply like a dream and last. These blushes are super pigmented so again, a little goes a long way.
What’s super great is they sell mini/travel sizes for half the price! The mini size is really all you need since they are so pigmented!
Oddly, the color Java doesn’t come in mini-size but it’s a great color that I would highly recommend for every skin tone.
Both Merit and Tower blushes (shown below) come in gorgeous colors and go on beautifully! Unfortunately, that’s where anything positive about these viral sensations stops.
They’re very sheer, which I usually like, so you really have to apply several layers. Once you get the intensity you want, take a good look. Because you’ll never know you applied any blush after an hour. 😏
Again, many thanks to Laura for sharing her extensive skincare and beauty knowledge with us today!
