June is Ohio Wine Month and last weekend we set out to explore some of the wineries of Madison, Ohio!

Grand River Cellars
Our first stop of the day was at Grand River Cellars for the weekly Food & Wine Pairing in the Cave event. The excellent host, Kathleen, walked us through a tasting of 4-5 different wines all paired with food offerings designed to enhance their flavors.
We learned more about the winery as well as how certain flavors can change how we perceive a wine. For instance, the Austin’s Blush, typically a semi-sweet blend of Merlot & Reisling, took on a much drier taste when accompanied by a slice of watermelon, basil, and feta cheese drizzled with Balsamic vinegar.
After the tasting, we enjoyed a late lunch on the patio. All the food here was really good! Favorites included the crostini with orange, walnut and honey and the raspberry cheesecake with cookie crumble.
Laurentia & Cask 307
Next, we made stops at both Laurentia and Cask 307, both just a short drive down the road from Grand Cellar Vineyards. The drive up to Laurentia was impressive, as were the amazing grounds!
Cask 307 is the boutique offshoot of Debonne Vineyards. Opened in 2019, they offer an upscale experience and also have a craft beer arm for those that prefer hops to grapes.
