Use sheet protectors to keep any samples or swatches you have clean and protected. I like to use a plain white sheet of paper for the background so that you can accurately see colors. A background sheet is also helpful if you want to use double-stick tape to hold your samples in place.
Build your binder out however you want! While I use ours primarily for dimension and color/fabric sample tracking, you may want to add inspiration photos, a budget tracker, or other information.
