Typically, by the time we get through Natty Guy’s birthday celebration (right before Christmas) and three full days of family Christmas celebrations I am D-O-N-E, DONE with rich food, wine and socializing. But every few years we decide to break our habit of hibernating on NYE and head out for a club or hotel party with some friends.

My weekly Banana Republic emails featured a few items that caught my eye so I headed out for a little try-on session. For tips on what to wear when shopping with a purpose, check out this post.

Metallics

While metallics are popular every holiday season, this year they are en fuego! Nothing adds a little New Year’s Eve worthy “glitter and glam” better than shiny gold, silver or sequins.

The first dress I tried came in two colors: champagne and navy. It fit true to size and I love that the cut is a classic shift shape. It’s the sort of piece that you can get years of mileage from.

I love the thought of pairing this dress with blush accents and a deeper, wine toned clutch. The fur coat adds a nice texture contrast to the sequins. Or go edgy with a moto jacket and black studded shoes!

The next dress I tried was a metallic pleated midi dress. I loved the swing of the skirt – just made for twirling on a dance floor!! You could wear this dress as is, or tone it down for an office party by putting a black sweater over top and pairing with tall black boots.

Classic Black

You all know about my love-affair with black! It’s just so chic and timeless. Initially I was hoping to try on this jumpsuit, but alas, they did not have it in my size so I tried on this similar version instead. I really, really like the look of this piece and loved that it had a side zip (much more convenient than a back zip after a few NYE champagnes). My primary concern was that it had NO give. None. Couldn’t sit, couldn’t bend over. Darn. Back to the rack it went!

Make a spectacular entrance by pairing a simple black dress or jumpsuit with candy-colored brights! How crazy fun are the Betsy Johnson sandals shown below!?! The similar look pair can be had for just $20. Topping this outfit off with a coat in a coordinating hue really finishes this cheery look. Alternately, you can play it classic with silver or gold details and accessories.

This jumpsuit I LOVE! It fit like a dream and runs true to size. The wide pant with a heel really lengthens the leg line. The rise was just right and it had enough shape along the bum to still give some nice curves. With so many jumpsuits you run into the diaper-drawers issue!

The fabric gave it more of an everyday feel but perhaps with some fun accessories and sparkly sandals it could work for NYE. Otherwise, it’s a super great basic if you’ve been wanting to get on the jumpsuit bandwagon!

Brights

They didn’t have many brights that I was wild about at Banana Republic but I did find a few that sparked interest online. This fringe dress from WHBM is so fun and this multi-colored Rachel Roy top would look great with black jeans for a more casual, yet festive, night on the town!
