Remember when you were a child and the only souvenir that mattered was a snow globe or a set of mouse ears? Ah, how times have changed. These days I’m a bit more discerning about what I’ll bring back home.
In recent years, I’ve really enjoyed looking for local beauty products. They’re small to transport and are usually formulated with scents that remind me of the places we visited. I tend to look for items not readily available in the US but, fortunately, if I absolutely fall for a product, most are now available online.

Soley Organics – Iceland
This Icelandic company makes a spectrum of beauty products from an irresistible combination of fresh mountain water and wild Icelandic herbs. The products are 100% safe and natural and even their packaging is environmentally friendly.
All I know is that whenever I use the GLOey exfoliator, I’m transported by the scent directly back to the Scandinavian ruggedness of Iceland. The company ships internationally and has one US based retail outlet at the Nordic Museum in Seattle, Washington.
O Boticário – Brazil
Grupo Boticario is another broad spectrum brand. Founded in 1977, the company has stores throughout Brazil and in 8 different countries. Would you believe it if I told you they are the largest beauty franchise in the world? Well, they are.
Their O Boticário brand is a leader in fragrances and is likely the most beloved beauty brand in Brazil. With scents like passion fruit, acai, and lychee, you’ll transform your next shower into a trip to the rain forest!
The company ships to the US via online orders and some products are also available on Amazon. But this is one of those situations where going to a retail outlet may be your best option. Stores can be found in South American, Portugal and Dubai.
ALZARA Body Care – Jordan
The restorative properties of the Dead Sea have been appreciated for centuries. ALZARA Body Care has numerous products for facial and body care. Their black mud mask has become one of my favorites and takes me back to the magic of the Dead Sea with every use.
Do you have a cult favorite foreign beauty product? Or some other “go-to” souvenir? I’d love to hear about it in the comments section. And while you’re here, check out some other travel posts:
