When the kimono trend first hit, I thought I’d be taking a definite pass on it. Too costume-y, too boho, too boudoir. But this spring the trend is coming on especially strong and now it’s starting to grow on me a bit! One that really caught my eye was the piece below from H & M. At $34 it isn’t a budget buster and suddenly I saw the kimono as a chic, easy way to update a black tank and crop or a black jumpsuit for date night. It has the ease and comfort of a cardigan but offers more edge and urban flair.
If the boho/festival scene is more your thing, the same kimono can be styled to accommodate by pairing it with a frayed hem miniskirt, striped tank and bohemian inspired shoes and accessories.

- Banana Republic Stripe Linen Tank
- James Jeans Mia Miniskirt
- Nordstrom Belt
- Dolce Vita Juno Sandal
- L. Erickson Eva Necklace
It still seems a bit tricky to pull off! I may have to just buy one and play with it for awhile. Below are a few great examples of celebs and street style icons sporting the look for even more inspiration.
So what do you think? Are fashion kimonos a yes or a no? Will you be sporting the trend this summer? I’d love to see you pics if you do!

I haven’t yet worn a kimono myself, although the soft patterns and feminine look is right up my alley. I think I’m worried about getting the right length with my short stature. Maybe I just need to try one! Great post!

Yes, sometimes you’ve just got to start trying some on to see IRL what the fit is like. Was in NYC a few weekends ago and saw them being worn all over the place – lots with shorts, some with crops, long kimonos, short kimonos, etc.
